Rovers dismal run continues
Match Sponsors-PaultonPlumbing Services & K Price Insulation Ltd REPORT BY ANDY HARRIS
Rovers’ dismal run continued as they slipped to their third successive defeat as failure to convert numerous chances cost them dear as clinical second half finishing saw the visitors grab the points.
There was no indication of the problems to follow as the home side pressed from the start Matt Cooper went close with a header and no one managed to get on the end of a great cross from the right by Alex Ball. Uxbridge caused the home fans a few anxious moments on the break with lone striker and skipper, Lee Tunnell, holding up the ball well. However after Ollie Price had just missed with a great header form a Charlie Rich’s corner it was no surprise when Rovers went ahead.
On 21 minutes Josh Jeffries went clear but Uxbridge keeper, Michael Watkins, made a great save only for Kane Ingram to collect the ball and set up Chris Lane who slotted home from close range.
Skipper, Alex Ball, should have added a second on 34 minutes but his near post header from another Rich corner cleared the bar. Lane went close with a free kick and Rich forced a good save as the home side finished the first half strongly.
Lane almost gave Rovers the perfect start to the second half but after good work by Ingram had set up the shooting chance Watkins again produced a fine save. Iain Harvey then provided Lane with another chance but his effort failed to hit the target. Ingram, Harvey and then Rob Claridge failed to get shots on target as Rovers struggled for an illusive second goal that might have killed the game.
As it was Rovers were made to pay for their wasted chances as the visitors equalised on 61 minutes as a cross from the right, after more good work from Tunnell , was headed home by the unmarked, Wayne Carter.
Uxbridge visible grew in confidence and on 76 minutes a ball inside the full back saw skipper, Lee Tunnell, cross for David Sargent to fire home.
Rovers thne gifted the game to their visitors as keeper, Kyle Phillips, kicked the ball straight to Tunnell who gratefully accepted the unexpected gift and calmly finished in style.
