Legend's 2 v 4 Paulton Rovers Sunday - Update

Zamarretto Southern Premier League Tiverton Town visited Winterfield Road for the last pre season friendly before the league begins next week.

Rovers showed early promise and matched the Devonian's. However Rob Cousins received a wound caused by an elbow to the back of his head after nine minutes. He was taken to Paulton Hospital receiving such excellent treatment that he walked back to the ground for halftime!

Mike Humphries broke the deadlock scoring from a low hard shot on 26 minutes.

Chris Lane twice had chances to level for Rovers and Josh Jeffries hit a drive from 25 yards but this was saved by visiting keeper Steve Book.

Midway through the second half Dean Griffiths raced on to a through ball from Paulton old boy Ben Cleverley. He chipped home stopper Kyle Phillips.

Rovers battled to reduce the arrears and manager Andy Jones will be looking to the positives whilst he finalises his squad as the league season begins.

Rovers manager Andy Jones will be looking a bright display as he finalises his plans as the new season starts.

Paulton Rovers from: Phillips, Redwood, Tovey, Rich, O’Hara, Price, Cousins. Jeffries, Lane, Claridge, DanCleverley, Barwood, Pendry, Ball, Hemmings, Burcall, Hulbert.

Following the game there was 'The Legend's' (Veteran's) v Paulton Rovers Sunday side with many former players making a cameo appearances.  The Legend's took the lead through Wayne Roberts, before the Sunday boys hit back with three quick goals two of those from Jon Filer. Clive Curtis reduced the arrears before The Sunday lads hit a fourth. Both sides missed from the penalty spot.

With all the first team squad watching hopefully they got a few tips from those who in some cases last played for Rovers over twenty years ago.

An excellent BBQ followed to make a great family occasion with karaoke in the bar.

Sunday Manager, Jon Fler and assistant Wayne Roberts, would like to thank everyone for their support for the event which goes from strength to strength and this year even included a fly past by the Red Arrows (well OK one that seemed to be lost!).
