First Team-WELTON ROVERS 1 v1 PAULTON ROVERS Reserves-TUNLEY 0 v 1 ROVERS RESERVES Having survived a 5th minute scare when ex Radstock striker, James Billings, forced a good save from Rovers’ keeper, Courtney Redwood, the visitors took a 7th minute lead. Ben Lacey crossed from the right after a neat interchange of passes and skipper, Dan Cleverley, headed home his second goal in as many games. Rovers continued to press and having slipped to the floor trying to convert a Chris Lane cross, Robbie Claridge set up Charlie Rich but his shot came back off the Welton bar. Billings had a further chance on 12 minutes after good work by former Paulton player, Dean Evans, but shot wide when clean through. The home side drew level on 16 minutes as Redwood’s clearance was collected by Evans and his through ball allowed Gary Banks to race clear and slot the ball home. Both sides had further chances to steal the honours but a mixture of poor finishing and good saves from both keepers ensured the friendly nature of the fixture was maintained. Mark Harrington looks to have built a good footballing side very capable of challenging for the Toolstation League title while Andy Jones will be pleased with the performance of his new recruits.
