Convicing win for Rovers in their last pre season friendly. Match report from Tony Walsh
The opening exchanges saw both sides going close to scoring. However Paulton started to dominate and made it 1-0 in the twenty ninth minute when Ben Chapman's corner on the left was firmly headed home by Tom Smith.
Rovers made it 2-0 on 37 minutes when captain Jack Mounty played in Scott Bowers who cut inside two defenders and then lifted the ball passes Odd Down keeper Dan Hines into the empty net.
Ross Whittock in the Paulton goal made two sound saves at the feet of the visitors enterprising strike El Abou whilst Hines turned a firm shot from Crag Burchill around the post.
He did give away a penalty two minutes from half time after El Abou was brought down. Marcus Godfrey struck home the resultant spot kick.
With a number of changes at half time Rovers maintained a high tempo and it was only a matter of time before they restored their two goal advantage. Rob Mills broke down the right before slotting home from close range.
Mills is the brother of Reserve player Drew who was a member of last terms promotion winning youth team. He looks as good a prospect as his sibling and was causing all kinds of problems with his mazy runs down the right wing.
Also looking to have potential was 15 years old Martin Lenihan whose skill on the ball was reminiscent of former first team player Ben Cleverley except Martin is well over six feet tall!
From his left wing corner in the eighty first minute Smith rose to head his second and make it 4-1 to Dave Neil's men.
Paulton open their Somerset Floodlit Youth League season at Winterfield Road against Keynsham Town next Wednesday 9 September K-O 7-30 p.m.
