Somerset Floodlight Youth League Cup Quarter Final

Unlucky Rovers exit the cup

Match report from Dave Neil

Paulton dominated the first half with wave after wave of attacks, playing some excellent football and with greta attitude and determination. Paulton should of been realistically 2 nill up at half time but when you miss an open goal from 3 yards you have that feeling its not going to be your night.

The second half saw Clevedon take a shock 1 nil lead within the first few minutes and then made it 2 nil a few minutes after that. Both goals coming from the same move and same part of the pitch. Manager Dave Neil was still in the dressing room getting his tea. "I think half the lads were still in there with me"

Paulton were still not out of it and continued to work hard, again spurning chances. Eventually they pulled 1 back through Ben Lacey. Time and legs ran out and with Clevedon taking the opportunity to waste time with at least 3 of their players going down with cramp eventually they ran out winners. It was a hard defeat to take but i cant fault the attitude, commitment and desire to win, only our finishing.

We can now concentrate on the league knowing that 2 of our rivals are still in the cup and with the amount of games to be played in a short space of time it will be challenging for all. We also have the leagues top scorer(in all 3 leagues) in Ben Lacey so there is much to be said about this team that is positive. We will certainly be doing all we can to win the league.

There was also a debut for 15 year old Jack May who is an exciting prospect for this club. He didnt look out of place for the 20 minutes he was on in a one of the toughest games you could be introduced into. Well done to him..

Team.. Smale, Mills, Hailston, Lidford, Allen, Evans, Flower, Banfield, Lacey, Capt, Morgan(Rideout 75), Harrington(May 70). Subs not used. Nolan, Mott.
