Somerset Senior Cup - Saturday 8th November KO 2 pm Match report from Gareth Wright Paulton rued missed chances as a dominant Rovers failed to convert chances over a fortunate Westland United side Rovers returned to the scene where they ran out 3-2 victors just three weeks previously. The game started with Rovers struggling to find their shape, and it wasn’t long before Westland United took advantage going one nil up. Rovers responded well and a tidy finish from Matt Crew made it 1-1. Rovers again lost concentration and a stray ball from midfield found its way to Westland’s right winger who neatly caught Redwood of his line to make it 2-1. Rovers again responded well and a Rory Delap type throw from Danny Boys made its way to Ryan Cleverly in the box who converted decisively to bring the scores level once more, a fantastic reaction save from Courtney Redwood just before the break ensured the scores remained even at half time. The second half saw complete domination from Rovers, with much of the possession in the opposition half. Rovers created many opportunities and several chances went begging, with aggressive defending and men behind the ball Westland also defended well. With time running out and with the there only attack of the half, a Westland counter attack somehow resulted in a goal to make it 3-2 to the home side. Chances continued to follow for rovers but lacked conviction in front of goal which ensured a victory for Westland. This now leaves Mark Evans and his team out of both cup competitions and allows them to solely concentrate on Rover’s main priority, gaining promotion. Redwood, Nolan, Wyyat, Collier, Clevery,Boys,Mines (Ridewood,70)Tugwell,Crew,Flower,Lathem (c) Subs not used: Chunk, Evans. Attendance: about 35? |
