Re:Reserves being scrapped? - 2010/02/12 06:40
Dear Andy,
Thanks for the response, its good to know that someone from the Committee is interested. I would suggest that any decision is taken in the best interests of Paulton as a village and by definition this will include the football club. However, the decision will be made by Committee (although I am not sure which one)and if previous decisions are anything to go by e.g. not encouraging the youth teams and netball team, that recently left the club and continue to thrive at Purnells, then I don't hold out much hope that the Committee are capable of taking a longer term view and arriving at the right decision for Paulton as a village. However, I would suggest that the committee consider actively recruiting individuals of the calibre of Jamie Brown to the ranks, if they decide that Purnells can operate from the Club. He is clearly one of the reasons behind Purnells success and I for one would love to see his like on the Management Committee (by the way he was a regular supporter of the reserves at one time) but I suspect the Committee will prefer to recruit a 'yes man' or a puppet rather than someone with new ideas and strong views that could upset some cosy 'arrangements'.
How will the decision be made?
Which Committee make the decisions?
Will it be a vote?
Are any members of the committee likely to abstain from the process as there will be a major conflict of interest if your nephew/cousin/son in law/son or grandson happen to play at Purnells?
I have absolutely no objection to Purnells operating from Paulton Rovers FC and I admire their recent achievements in part down to recruiting lots of good ex Paulton Rovers players. However, I have serious concerns about the reasons behind the idea and complete lack of interest or support from the Committee for Gareth Wright and the Reserve team over recent seasons. Was it not the case that under Andy Jones the Reserves were funded to the tune of £10 per player? Now only a few seasons later the team are considered a financial 'burden' against a background of the best cup run in the Clubs history. I believe the Reserves have provided very good support to the first team (indeed supplied the most successful Manager in the Clubs history) in the past but fear the writing is on the wall and maybe not in the future.
